EMA

Filter in the app: EMA 9/21 ↑ · EMA 9/21 ↓ · EMA 50/200 ↑ · EMA 50/200 ↓

EMA means exponential moving average. It is a line that follows price and gives more weight to recent candles than to older ones. People search for an EMA when they want a smoother description of direction than the raw candles. An EMA is not a target, and a cross of two EMAs is not a promise that price will go up. In PatternLabs the buttons are EMA 9/21 ↑, EMA 9/21 ↓, EMA 50/200 ↑ and EMA 50/200 ↓. This page explains the exponential moving average and how a scan uses EMA. It is not financial advice.

What an EMA shows

A simple average treats every candle in the window the same. An exponential moving average does not. Newer prices pull the EMA faster. A short EMA hugs price. A long EMA lags and describes the broader swing. Traders watch whether a shorter EMA is above or below a longer EMA, and they watch the moment one crosses the other. In PatternLabs the buttons EMA 9/21 ↑, EMA 9/21 ↓, EMA 50/200 ↑ and EMA 50/200 ↓ mark a faster exponential moving average crossing a slower one. The line only summarizes past prices.

What EMA does not say

An EMA cross is late by design, because the average needs candles before it can turn. A cross can whipsaw in a range. Price can stay on one side of an EMA for a long time without offering a clean trade. PatternLabs does not place an order when an EMA condition matches. The filter lists pairs. It does not grade the trend as safe or unsafe. Those four buttons do not add a new indicator beyond the exponential moving averages the app already calculates.

How to look for EMA in PatternLabs

Open PatternLabs and choose a market. Add EMA 9/21 ↑, EMA 9/21 ↓, EMA 50/200 ↑ or EMA 50/200 ↓ to the filter chain on the timeframe you want. The scan checks the crypto spot and forex pairs the app covers and returns those where that button matches. Open the chart and see which averages actually crossed. You can combine them with RSI > 70, RSI < 30, Volume, or BOS. There is no separate moving-average product to switch on.

How to read a match

Check the slope of the longer EMA, not only the cross. A short EMA crossing a falling long EMA inside a range is a different picture from a cross that agrees with a clear swing. Look at the higher timeframe so one EMA event is not the whole analysis. PatternLabs shows the match so you can see the lines. This page does not tell you to buy a bullish cross or to sell a bearish one, and it does not promise a profit from an EMA.
