Break of Structure (BOS)

Filter in the app: BOS

A break of structure, usually shortened to BOS, is the moment price trades beyond a prior swing in the same direction as the swings already printed on the chart. People look up a break of structure when they want a name for continuation. The name does not mean the next candle must rise or fall. In PatternLabs the filter is called BOS. This page explains the break of structure and how a scan uses BOS. It is a description of a chart idea. It is not financial advice, not a call to trade, and not a claim that price will go up.

What a break of structure shows

Swings leave highs and lows. While those points keep stepping one way, a later push through the latest swing in that same direction is a break of structure. A BOS through a prior high means the upswing printed another higher point. A BOS through a prior low means the downswing printed another lower point. Traders use a break of structure to describe that the existing sequence has extended, not to measure how far the next leg will travel. Two markets can print a BOS on the same timeframe and then diverge. The label only records the break.

What BOS does not say

A break of structure is not a forecast and not a promise of profit. Price can stall, overlap, or reverse immediately after a BOS. A news candle, a thin session, or a larger swing on a higher timeframe can all disagree with one BOS on a small chart. PatternLabs does not turn a BOS match into an order. The filter only finds pairs where a break of structure is present. A row on the list is a reason to open the chart, not a reason to assume the move will continue.

How to look for BOS in PatternLabs

Open PatternLabs and choose a market. The app covers crypto spot pairs and forex. Build a filter chain and add BOS on the timeframe you want to read. The scan lists pairs where that BOS condition matches. Open a row to see the chart and the markup around the break of structure. If the list is wider than you want, add filters that already exist in the app, such as Volume, FVG, or Order Block. There is no extra control beyond those names. A BOS on one timeframe can sit inside an opposite swing on another, which is why the chain can hold more than one timeframe.

How to read a match

Before you decide anything, read the swings on both sides of the break of structure. A single BOS does not describe the whole chart. Check whether this break of structure agrees with the larger swings or fights them. PatternLabs shows the match so that reading is possible. The decision stays outside the app. Nothing on this page tells you to buy, sell, or expect a profit from a BOS.
